3. THE NICE GUYS: Shane Black’s rollicking action-comedy was one of 2016’s under-seen gems. Black’s third directorial effort (after Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Iron Man 3) failed to make a big splash at the box office, earning back its budget my only seven million dollars, but The Nice Guys should not be underestimated so quickly. Since it was considered by HBO for a series at one point, there’s no reason the title can’t still find second wind on television.

The Nice Guys is a hilarious, action-packed romp that pits a two-bit private eye, Holland March, with a thug for hire, Jackson Healy, in the investigation of a porn star’s murder. March and Healy, played brilliantly by Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe, soon uncover a shocking conspiracy that goes all the way to the highest offices in LA’s government.

March and Healy would play wonderfully in any form, whether it be in novels, comic books, or video games, but the medium it could work best in, aside from film, is television. Hopefully HBO saw The Nice Guys and their interests have piqued accordingly.

Could Russell Crowe be the worst Jekyll & Hyde of all time? One of the earliest indications of The Mummy‘s Dark Universe designs was the casting of Russell Crowe opposite Tom Cruise as Dr. Henry Jekyll. This was, at first, exciting; it promised that the reboot of a franchise that was last in cinemas less than ten years ago would be making some efforts to expand its scope and, obviously and most prominently, it meant we’d be seeing the iconic dual personality scientist brought to life by a major screen presence.

Personally, I enjoyed The Mummy and I enjoyed Russell as Jekyll & Hyde….but we can’t like all the same things, right? 😉

Russell Crowe has revealed the most dangerous stunt he’s ever done saying it was “probably one of the stupidest things I ever did”.

Speaking to Aussie radio hosts Chrissie, Sam and Browny from Nova, the Kiwi actor revealed his role on Proof of Life nearly killed him.

“Right at the beginning of the film there’s a sequence where I run up to this helicopter and I jump onto it and it takes off, so I actually did that,” he said.

EIGHTEEN games in the past three years, in a career that’s featured three shoulder reconstructions, broken jaws, ankles and 18th man duties for a historic grand final win.

You best take your chances in this life. Ray Thompson didn’t need a trip to the Land of Opportunity to crack that one.

Sitting poolside at the Beverley Hills Hotel with Oscar winner Russell Crowe and footballing great Steven Gerrard six months ago, the Cowboys utility deserved every decadent second of that moment.

If you’re ever looking for a teammate to join your pub trivia night, maybe international superstar singer Lorde could help you out.

The Kiwi singer revealed on Australian radio station triple j that she’s won a $50 bar tab *and* a free pizza in her quiz defeating conquests before. Which is better than most of our efforts.

While Lorde may not be able to drive — which is why she had to think long about where the green light on a traffic light — she’ll always be reliable on those movie soundtrack questions.

Just don’t ask her anything about her fellow New Zealander, actor Russell Crowe. She thought he was Australian! For shame, Lorde!

Russell Crowe is looking to take a role alongside David Oyelowo in upcoming film Arc Of Justice.

The Oscar-winning actor is eyeing up a lead part in the new adaptation of Kevin Boyle’s 2004 non-fiction book Arc of Justice: A Saga of Race, Civil Rights, and Murder in the Jazz Age, according to Variety.

Backed by the Mark Gordon Company and set to be directed by Narcos producer Jose Padilha, the film will centre on an incident which occurred in Detroit in 1925, whereby African-American physician Ossian Sweet was put on the stand for murder for defending his new home against a mob of white rioters.

Sweet’s defens was funded by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and led by lawyer Clarence Darrow.

Oyelowo has already signed on to portray Sweet, while it is understood that Crowe is interested in playing Darrow.

Crowe, 53, is no stranger to playing real-life figures, having starred as mathematician John Nash in A Beautiful Mind and boxer James Braddock in Cinderella Man.

James Mangold delivered one of this year’s best films with Logan, and among its many acclaimed aspects is its vibe and feel of a modern-day western. It’s something he’s done before with Cop Land, but Mangold also made a point of directing an actual western as well.
