Awards season is upon us, and the Peach State’s film critics have named their favorite movies and performances from 2016.
The Georgia Film Critics Association has handed out awards in categories much like the Oscars since it was founded in 2011 by CAmeron McAllister, marketing director for the Atlanta Film Society. The organization, which includes critics from various publications across the state, including Atlanta Business Chronicle contributor Eleanor Ringel Cater, was a big fan of nostalgic musical “La La Land” and “Moonlight,” which both won multiple awards.
It also gave “The Nice Guys,” which filmed in Georgia and stars Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe, the Oglethorpe Award for Excellence in Georgia Cinema.
“It surprised me when I was tabulating the votes,” McAllister said. “I don’t think ‘The Nice Guys’ will see any Oscar love, but it’s a really good film with a smart screenplay.”
