Cinderella Man starring Russell Crowe joins the 50 Best Movies on Netflix!

Netflix added Cinderella Man to its streaming service on July 1, and we had to add Cinderella Man to our rankings of the 50 Best Movies on Netflix!

That’s why we are featuring Cinderella Man in our latest update of the ranking. If you are looking for a great movie that is based on a true story to watch on Netflix this weekend, Cinderella Man is the movies for you!

Cinderella Man is based on the life of James Braddock, a boxer who lived during the Great Depression. The film premiered in theaters in 2005 and was one of the best movies of the year.

Cliff Hollingsworth and Akiva Goldsman wrote the screenplay for the film, and Ron Howard directed Cinderella Man. Russell Crowe, Renée Zellweger, Paul Giamatti, Craig Bierko, Paddy Considine, Bruce McGill, and Ron Canada starred in the film.

In the film, James Braddock (Russell Crowe) is forced to give up boxing after breaking his hand, but he is unable to support his family on his spotty work and wages. Braddock decides to get back in the ring and begins his quest for the Heavyweight title against all the odds.

Cinderella Man was nominated for a couple prestigious awards including three Oscars for Best Supporting Actor (Paul Giamatti), Best Film Editing, and Best Makeup. Unfortunately, the film did not win any Oscars, Golden Globes, or BAFTAs.

Paul Giamatti won the SAG Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the film.

Even jaded critics have emotional buttons to be pushed, and for me they’re pressed by any story of self-sacrifice. Show me someone doing something hard simply because it’s the right thing, and I’m interested. Make them a parent, and I’m gone.

At the beginning of July, Gladiator returned to Netflix after a long absence, and it has also returned to our ranking of the 50 Best Action Movies on Netflix!

Gladiator premiered in theaters around the world in 2000. David Franzoni, John Logan, and William Nicholson wrote the screenplay for the film. Ridley Scott directed Gladiator.

Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen, Oliver Reed, Derek Jacobi, Djimon Hounsou, and Richard Harris starred in the film.

Gladiator tells the story of Maximus (Russell Crowe), a former General in the Roman Army who is jailed for refusing an order from the Roman Emperor Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix). Maximus escapes prison and begins fighting as a Gladiator with the hope that he will one day slay the Emperor.

Gladiator was easily one of the best action movies of the 2000s. It’s also one of the most decorated movies of all time. The film was nominated for 12 Oscars and won in five categories including Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role (Russell Crowe), Best Costume Design, Best Sound, and Best Visual Effects.

If you have not seen Gladiator yet, you have to watch it on Netflix, especially if you are a big fan of action movies. Although Gladiator might be a little overhyped at this point, it is still one of the best action movies of the last 20 years or so.

I don’t care if it didn’t come out this week strictly speaking, The Little Cinema is still showing it so I can still tell you how great it is and how highly I recommend you go and see it.

Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe reveal superb comic finesse and timing in this otherwise tense drama. Gosling plays Holland March, an inept Los Angeles private eye who right at the outset receives a beating from goon-for-hire Jackson Healy. The pair are uneasily obliged to join forces tracking down the missing teenage daughter of a Justice Department bigwig, who’s equally concerned about the Mob’s infiltration of her city. The initially unrelated death of a porn star, plus single parent March’s relationship with his precocious young daughter, provide further intrigue and entertainment.

It’s written and directed by Shane Black (Iron Man 3, lethal Weapon and Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang) and boasts one of this year’s best movie soundtracks.

9. The Nice Guys
Most studio directors would never have thought that Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe would make a great comedy duo. But then, Shane Black has repeatedly proved that he isn’t like most studio directors. An appropriately scruffy ode to seedy ’70s-era Los Angeles, Black’s colorful Hollywood noir stuffs Chinatown, The Long Goodbye, and Boogie Nights in a blender and hits puree. And it provides as much of a kick as that concoction promises. — E.A. (Photo: Warner Bros.)

10. ‘The Nice Guys’
Before this throwback 1970s-set mystery comedy, Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe were perhaps a strange pairing you might see at the bar on Oscar night. What Nice Guys shows is how outstanding movies can be when they find the right odd couple — in this case, Crowe’s natural gravitas playing it straight next to Gosling’s winning smarminess.
