The National Film and Sound Archive’s (NFSA) crowdfunding campaign to restore Proof, Jocelyn Moorhouse’s 1991 film, is in its final days.

Written and directed by Moorhouse, Proof is the story of Martin (Hugo Weaving), a blind photographer. Andy, played by Russell Crowe, is the only friend Martin trusts to describe his photos to him.

The film launched both Weaving and Crowe’s careers onto the international stage, and was also Moorhouse’s breakout as a director. Proof premiered at Cannes, where it won the Golden Camera award, and has also won a host of AFI awards, including best film, director, screenplay, lead actor and supporting actor

Check out this line-up: we’ve got Kingsman‘s Sofia Boutella as The Mummy next year, facing off against Tom Cruise’s Tyler Colt, a Navy SEAL we’re guessing is some kind of take on the monster hunter Van Helsing, Russell Crowe making a cameo as Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde, Johnny Depp in talks to play the Invisible Man, Angelina Jolie rumored to be the Bride, and now the Rock as the Wolfman.

7. Robin Hood (2010)
As revisionist movies of the 2010s are wont to do, Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood focuses on its famous hero’s humble origins, sets the story against a gritty, “realistic” backdrop, and then denies us the story we showed up to see in the first place (that’s what sequels are for, after all). By the time the heavily historicized drama’s two-and-a-half-hour runtime is drawing to a close, there’s been a lot of political reshuffling and self-serious grimacing (mostly on the part of Russell Crowe’s Robin), and then, in the last five minutes, Robin is finally declared an outlaw and moves to Sherwood Forest. The movie boasts an all-star cast — Cate Blanchett plays Marian and Oscar Isaac is a wonderfully nasty Prince John — as well as some impressive action sequences, but good luck finding any actual fun in a single drab frame.

Russell Crowe’s career was questioned when he decided to make Gladiator.

The New Zealand-born actor was landing small roles in Australia and Hollywood before finally breaking through in the mid ‘90s. It was his casting in L.A. Confidential that really got people talking, before he stunned in an Oscar-winning performance in 2000’s Gladiator. Not everyone thought the Roman epic would be a success though.

WHEN last we called with Russell Crowe he was in the middle of an epic Twitter rant at Virgin Australia because airline staff wouldn’t allow his son to bring a hoverboard on to the aeroplane.

The time before that we caught up with him as he chucked a phone around in a New York hotel.

Sleb Safari also checked in with the actor around about the time he revealed, most unexpectedly, that he’d been the victim of prank calls from Michael Jackson.

“I never met him, never shook his hand, but he found out the name I stayed in hotels under, so it didn’t matter where I was, he’d ring up do this kind of thing, like you did when you were 10, you know. ‘Is Mr Wall there? Is Mrs Wall there? Are there any Walls there? Then what’s holding the roof up? Ha ha.’ You’re supposed to grow out of doing that, right?”

We revisit Russell today because he’s been speaking about the toll his craft has taken on his body.
