Another part of the issue is that reasonably good movies of the summer are not clicking with the right audiences. One of my favorite films of the year, so far, is The Nice Guys starring two hugely bankable stars, Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling. The film is an original story, a blast to watch, and has great performances, but has failed to earn even $40 million so far. The reason being that, on paper, its target audience is older, but in theaters, it competed with Neighbors 2 for the younger audiences. These films were released at the same time and basically cancelled each other out. If released earlier in the year, The Nice Guys probably would have been a hit.

Ryan told XPOSÉ that working with Russell Crowe in The Nice Guys was something that he’d always wanted to do. He told us, “I’m a huge fan of Russell’s as well so it was a real treat.” The feeling is clearly mutual as Russell told RTÉ Ten, “That kid just makes me laugh. He’s some kind of comedic genius. We had a very open collaboration. It was great in that regard with Shane [director and screenwriter] too because he just trusted us to stay in the spirit of what he intended. He was totally open to other things that we might discover.”

When Jack and Rose dramatically collided with each other on board James Cameron’s Titanic back in 1997 with English rose Kate Winslet and US heartthrob Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead roles, it was everything we could have ever imagined and beyond.

Years on and we’re still falling hard for the spectacular love story and, despite having sobbed through the 3 hour juggernaut countless times, there’s one line that engages our heartstrings in an incomparable tug of war like no other: “I’ll never let go.”

2. Gladiator (2000)
Gladiator certainly has one of our favorite performances from Australian born Russell Crowe, which tells the story of Maximus Decimus Meridius and his brutal battles in Rome’s gladiatorial pits. The following line became so famous in fact that even rapper Jay-Z featured it in his 2003 track “What More Can I Say.”

Quote: “Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?”

Fun Fact: Throughout all of the movie’s gladiatorial scenes, Russell Crowe broke bones in his foot and his hip, and also hurt both bicep tendons.

Ashley Williams: Captain Fantastic. The one you’d turn to when your back is really, really up against it. The Gladiator of the Wales team could only really be played by Russell Crowe.

Netflix added Cinderella Man to its streaming service on July 1, and we had to add Cinderella Man to our rankings of the 50 Best Movies on Netflix!

That’s why we are featuring Cinderella Man in our latest update of the ranking. If you are looking for a great movie that is based on a true story to watch on Netflix this weekend, Cinderella Man is the movies for you!

Cinderella Man is based on the life of James Braddock, a boxer who lived during the Great Depression. The film premiered in theaters in 2005 and was one of the best movies of the year.

Cliff Hollingsworth and Akiva Goldsman wrote the screenplay for the film, and Ron Howard directed Cinderella Man. Russell Crowe, Renée Zellweger, Paul Giamatti, Craig Bierko, Paddy Considine, Bruce McGill, and Ron Canada starred in the film.

In the film, James Braddock (Russell Crowe) is forced to give up boxing after breaking his hand, but he is unable to support his family on his spotty work and wages. Braddock decides to get back in the ring and begins his quest for the Heavyweight title against all the odds.

Cinderella Man was nominated for a couple prestigious awards including three Oscars for Best Supporting Actor (Paul Giamatti), Best Film Editing, and Best Makeup. Unfortunately, the film did not win any Oscars, Golden Globes, or BAFTAs.
